Famous tech news site, TechCrunch claims to have obtained a legal document that depict transfer of shares from the augmented reality startup Metaio to the Cupertino Giant. Metaio launched back in 2003 as a sub project under Volkswagen. The document confirms a transfer of shares to Apple on May 21st/22nd. numerous acquisitions for its mapping services and now this, it seems Apple is aiming for something bigger. Apple already has filed a patent for a potential VR headset for iPhone and according to several sources, the company is looking to add VR to its Maps applications so that one can point the camera at a street and know what kinds of businesses run there. We contacted both the companies regarding this deal. Apple being Apple replied back with it's all timer, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.” Metaio on the other hand, has not replied yet. With a 1000 customers and 150,000 users worldwide in 30 countries, we expect something will turn up sooner or later. Meanwhile, Metaio's website shows that they have stopped product support as of now and that email supports will continue up to June 30th, 2015.
