At a media event held in the historic city of Agra today, Asus launched the much-anticipated camera smartphone, the Zenfone Zoom. Priced at Rs. 37999/- for the phone itself and Rs. 39999/- for the add-on flash and tripod kit, the Zenfone Zoom boasts of 3x Optical Zoom and 12x Digital Zoom. Ever since its debut at the CES 2015, Asus has been touting the camera prowess of the Zenfone Zoom. It is the world's thinnest camera smartphone to sport Optical Zoom which adds an "extra dimension" to the camera performance. Though the sensor is only 13 MP, it features a 10 element lens design which provides for a 12x digital zoom that ultimately results in much finer close-up detail. Apart from the zoom capabilities, the camera does come with all the bells and whistles one expects from a smartphone viz. OIS, PDAF etc. The front camera has a 5MP sensor, f/2.0-aperture and a wide-angle 88-degree lens with Pano Selfie. The camera is also capable of extreme close-ups as near as 5cm. Asus has made sure that the Zenfone Zoom not only excels in the camera department but also comes with top-notch hardware. The front is dominated by a large 5.5" 1080p display which equates to 403ppi. The display is the same one as found on many of Asus' Zenfone series of smartphones, the only exception being the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The grunt is provided by a Quad Core Intel Atom Z3590 clocked at 2.5Ghz. This, paired with 4GB of RAM ensures a zippy user experience. Introducing Zenfone Zoom to India, Jerry Shen, ASUS CEO said: “Photography has become extremely important for today’s smartphone users. Consumers want to capture every precious moment of their lives on their smartphone cameras, and also be able to perform multiple tasks with the same device. With Zenfone Zoom, we are introducing an unbeatable smartphone that complements today’s lifestyles and puts professional photography within the reach of everyone.” The device will be available on Flipkart starting today and in Asus exclusive stores starting February. We took the Zenfone Zoom for a spin and the entire review will be up before the end of the week. What do you think of the Zoom? Do let us know in the comments below!
