Word no.14 and tournament second seed, Feliciano Lopez was knocked out of the Chennai Open 2015 in the second round by qualifier, Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. Playing his first match of the new season, Lopez could not display his glamorous game and failed to match his opponent. He was outclassed in every field of play and the Spaniard went down 6-4 6-4 to the qualifier, Bedene rather tamely. "He played a great match and he was a better player than me in this match.I know it is always tough to play the first match of the season because you are not confident, you need to adjust. But credit to him because he was very consistent." Lopez said. Lopez said that he was frustrated with the fact that he could do little to change the fate of the game. The Spaniard was coming off a strong 2014 season which he ended on a high. Meanwhile, it was a special win for the 156th ranked Slovenian, Aljaz Bedene who wrapped up the game in 1 hour and 25 minutes. "I have never beaten such a high-ranked player before, so obviously this was very special," the Slovenian said on advancing to the quarterfinals. The tournament has sprung up surprises yet again and the going only gets tough from the quarterfinals. Top seed, Stanislas Wawrinka and third seed Roberto Bautista Agut have cemented their places in the quarterfinals. The winner will take home $73,400(USD) and also 250 valuable ATP points. The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday(January 11th) at the Nungambakkam tennis stadium.
