2015 will be a big year for Facebook. The proceedings of Day 2 of the F8 conference in San Francisco confirm the same. The second day of F8, the annual developer conference of Facebook, began with Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer, Mike Schroepfer, delivering a keynote on the next generation of technology that Facebook is building to connect the world.

The prototype that Facebook showcased today was not only able to identify 487 different types of sports, but recognize tiny differences between activities like ice skating vs ice hockey.
Some of the leading minds in AI research are working at Facebook to build intelligent machines. One of the group’s more recent advances is a technology called Memory Networks, which enables a machine to perform relatively sophisticated question answering, as in this example of a machine answering questions about a Lord of the Rings synopsis.
