Facebook has recently launched its new standalone app called 'Riff' for Android as well as iOS devices. Designed and developed in Facebook's creative labs, this new app allows you to make any video for upto 20 seconds and lets you give a suitable catchy tagline for the world to see. That's not all, the concept behind it is that other users (your friends) can view the video and add their own related clips and extend the video duration. It is similar to how we comment in a Facebook post, but in 'Riff' you 'comment' with a video clip.
“The potential pool of creative collaborators can grow exponentially from there, so a short video can become an inventive project between circles of friends you can share to Facebook or anywhere on the Internet.” - Josh Miller. Facebook's product manager.
In the app, you are able to tag your friends, share and 'comment' in other's videos making a single short video to circulate among lot of people and makes a video viral over the internet, given that if the video is worth it and it attracts people, like the infamous Ice bucket challenge. Here’s how it works: • Log in with Facebook to see videos by your friends on Riff • Start a video and tag your friends to let them see and their own clip • Browse Riff for more videos and if you like it, add your own clip and spread it • Get inspired by checking out videos the Riff team has featured • Share the videos you start, add to, or find on Riff with friends! Watch the following clip to see how using Riff feels like.
Though it's an innovative idea to comment with 'video clips' it's not actually one of it's kind, there are other apps like JumpCam, Vyclone, MixBit which uses the same concept, including Snapchat's 'Our story' feature. But as it's a Facebook product it may get lot many users and this simple app could be a hit.
