A quick research will tell you that Google's uber holding company might just have committed a grave mistake. Alphabet, is a subsidiary registered to BMW and they do own a trademark. A trademark battle will follow. When, we are not that sure.
Not only with the domain name, Google also doesn't own the facebook / twitter handle for alphabet. The facebook page points to the BMW subsidiary and the twitter handle is owned by Chris Andrikanich, a "Dad. Husband. Self-proclaimed geek who fires off regular gibberish, gobblety-gook about sports, tech, CLE"
The .xyz registry is the largest of approximately 500 top-level domains that have been added to the internet in the past year, with just under 750,000 .xyz domains. Google is perhaps looking to end the .com reign with many startups unable to find their desired domain because johndoe.com was already reserved. Interestingly, Alphabet's new homepage also contains a hidden easter egg. hidden link at the end of one paragraph that goes to hooli.xyz. For those scratching their heads as to what Hooli is, well, in simple words, it is the fancy tech giant from Silicon Valley, a HBO TV comedy series. (PS, if you haven't seen this series, we suggest you stop reading and go watch it ASAP) If you are thinking well, perhaps Google could simply buy off abc.com or ask BMW nicely. The answer to that is a big NO! abc.com points to the TV channel and as for alphabet, here's what BMW has to say about it: Alphabet is one of the fastest growing international fleet management suppliers, providing financing and leasing for all makes of vehicles. Established in 1997 in the UK, Alphabet today has a financed car volume of approximately 200,000 vehicles of all makes and manages in total more than 300,000 company car contracts for over 12,000 customers. Alphabet is represented in 14 countries. Alphabet offers a comprehensive portfolio of fleet products, with a wide selection of funding solutions, along with maintenance, service management, fuel management, accident management, risk management and vehicle rental. Alphabet Fleet Management is a division of BMW Group. Its headquarters are located in Munich, Germany. To add to Google's suffering, someone just registered abc.wtf which redirects to... let's not spoil the surprise for you!
Well, that was an interesting way to end a Monday...— Chris Andrikanich (@alphabet) August 10, 2015
