Are you tired of strict data usage policies? Does the murderous FUP limits even after shelling grands move you to tears? Do you dream of an Utopian connection to the internet? Fret not, meet Freewheel. US cable giant, Cablevision is ready to release Freewheel this February, the first fully Wi-Fi oriented data usage plan, that allows subscribers unlimited data usage in the form of texting, instant messaging besides other modes of communicating through a Wi-Fi network at a very surprising price of $ 9.95 per month! And the phone is gonna cost just $99! Yup you read that right. So, whether streaming 1080p movies on Netflix, or going multiplayer in your favourite RPG, or talking to your friend over Skype you've got it all covered. Unlike current data providers, who use a cellular medium to transmit data, Freewheel uses a Wi-Fi hotspot to suit your needs. So on the flip side, you just won't be able to 'call' people like you'd normally do using a cellular network. But, the downside is that these services will only be offered for NYC folks through Cablevision's 1.1 million Optimum Wi-Fi hotspots in the Metro area. Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) FreedomPop also had rolled a Wi-Fi-only Android handset last yearwith services starting at $5 per month. Even Google has expressed its desire to become a MVNO. "Cablevision recognizes the growing shift to WiFi-driven consumer electronic devices and services," Cablevision CEO James Dolan said in the copmany's press release. Freewheel is powered by the millions of WiFi hotspots that extend from your home to the coffee shop to your office to your school. This means that wherever you are—across town or across the globe—you can talk, text, download, upload, and stream wherever there’s WiFi, without ever paying a penny more.
