A major earthquake hit Nepal just before noon today and as a result, massive tremors lasting well over a minute were felt all across North India.
“Magnitude of quake 7.9 on the Richter scale, epicentre at Nepal,” the Met department said.
“Earthquake of magnitude 7.9 occurred today at 11.41 AM between latitude 28.1 North and Longitude 84.6 East. The epicentre was located in Nepal,” an IMD statement said.
In Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region, people were seen running out of their houses after buildings shook for well over a minute.
[UPDATE] This is the worst earthquake to hit Nepal in over 8 decades. The death toll has risen to 700 (via Retuers). In India, the death toll has crossed 20 with major deaths reported in Bihar and eastern UP.
“Cars in the portico were shaking along with the trees,” said a resident.
News has come in about an Earthquake in Nepal. Several parts of India also experienced tremors.

In Ghaziabad, tremors were felt twice that made people rush out in blistering heat. It is unclear as to the extent of damage caused in Nepal but nothing major has been reported in the NCR region.
