I'm so grateful to be standing here as a champion for the fifth time, and to be in the elite group of playerssaid Djokovic after the match. It was however "disaster" for Andy Murray, who has now won, only 2 Grand Slam titles from the 8 finals he has played. Murray has lost all four Australian Open finals he has been in, thrice to Djokovic and once to Federer.
It's been my most consistent Grand Slam of my career. I haven't been quite able to win, but the support I've received here has been amazing.I'll try and come back next year and hopefully have a slightly different outcome in the finala visibly upset Murray said during the presentations. The Brit has all reasons to be upset after he lost 12 of the last 13 games to the steely Serbian. His head-to-head record against Djokovic is now 8-16, with his last win coming at the Wimbledon finals in 2013. It was a match that was pitted to be close, till finish, but Andy Murray lost steam after the third set which made Djokovic go for the shots and wrap up the fourth set and the match with it. It was nevertheless a battle of rallying beasts, in the first two sets, which went into tie-breakers. Djokovic won the first while Murray salvaged the second. Murray was however not able to match the World No.1 after his serve was broken in the eight game of the third set. From then on, it was just "no mercy" from Djokovic as he ripped Murray apart, dropping just one game to victory. The contest between the two had put an air of seriousness around the court but there was Kim Sears, Murray's girlfriend to make things light. She was wearing an over-sized t-shirt which read "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" making light of her outburst during Murray's win over Tomas Berdych in the Semifinals. Though Murray failed to make an impact, there was his girlfriend of eight years, Kim to help him out. She sure did have an impact, not to mention the huge attention she got on social media. Way to go Kim!
