Shortly after their official launch in China, Samsung has released the updated variants of the immensely popular Galaxy J5 and J7 in India. The new phones follow the company's new naming convention using the last digit of the year they were launched in as the suffix to the original name. (Damn.. Out of alphabets already, are we?)
Both the handsets sport a premium metallic frame with a brushed metallic back cover. The Galaxy J5 6 sports a 5.2" 720p Super AMOLED display while its elder sibling gets a 5.5" one. The back houses a 13MP shooter with a f/1.9 aperture paired with a 5MP front facing camera. Both the front and rear cameras sport an LED flash for those dim lot shots. The RAM has been bumped up to 2GB from the previous variants and so has the base storage. The Galaxy J5 and J7 now come with 16GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. The battery capacity has also been increased to 3100mAh for the J5 and 3300mAh for J7.
While both the devices run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, the major difference is in form the processor. The Galaxy J5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor while Galaxy J7 has an upgraded Exynos 1.6 GHz Octa Core processor. Both the smartphones also sport the fabled SBike Mode that launched with the Galaxy J3.
The Galaxy J series has been Samsung's best seller in the Indian market. According to industry sources, they account for nearly 25% of the revenue generated and have proven to be a hit for in the youth segment that Samsung refers to as the #Millenials group! Speaking at the launch, Mr Manu Sharma, Vice President Mobile Business, Samsung India commented, "The Galaxy J Series has received a tremendous response from consumers.
