Sania Mirza becomes the first Indian tennis player to be ranked World No.1 in Women’s doubles after winning WTA Family Circle Cup with Martina Hingis in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. The top seeded Indo-Swiss pair defeated Casey Dellacqua and Darija Jurak 6-0 6-4 in just 57 minutes in the lop-sided final. Mirza took 470 points from the win to take her tally to 7965 as she jumped past Italy’s Sara Errani (7640) and Roberta Vinci (7640) to sit atop the ranking table. The official ranking chart will be issued on Monday. Sania Mirza is the third Indian who has reached such great heights in Tennis Circuit. Only Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati have achieved the top rank other than Mirza. "I can't think of a better person to do it with. When we came here, we had one thing on mind, to get No. 1, and she really helped me get there," Sania said during the presentation ceremony in Charleston. "I'd like to tell all the young girls-BELIEVE- believe in yourself so strongly that the world can't help but believe in u too," Sania tweeted after winning the Family Circle Cup. Later after being ranked World No.1 Sania tweeted, "I also wanna thank the ppl who didn't believe in me". Sania has managed to answer all those who’ve questioned her integrity towards the nation. Time and again Sania has answered all her doubters with her performance. Last year, she won WTA Doubles Tour finals alongside Cara Black defeating the Chinese pair of Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai 6-1 6-0. Sania is also the only Indian Female player to be ranked as high as 27 in Women’s singles in August, 2007. Not to forget, she has won all the Grand Slams except Wimbledon.
