We will own the customer experience on the tech end, as the platform, the delivery and logistics will be owned by the restaurants.Pilots have already begun in few restaurants. This service is also not restricted to India. Soon after the launch in India, Zomato plans to roll out this service in Jakarta, Manila, Sydney and Dubai. Right now, Zomato values at $660 million. Its jut the wait game for them as it won't be long before they cross the billion dollar mark.
The best thing about Dominos other than their pizza, is their delivery service. We can literally see at what stage our order is and when the pizza will be dispatched. The waiting time becomes a little less when we know what is happening with our order, even though in actuality it still takes 30 min. The only problem is that the only site available for such facilities other than the pizza delivery site is FoodPanda and Yelp(of course, there maybe others, but sadly these are the only nationwide sites/apps I know). Zomato, the leading restaurant discovery site where we all go to for reviews and making our friday night plans has decided that FoodPanda and Yelp will not have monopoly for this service and will now provide food ordering services as well. Zomato CEO, Deepinder Goyal hopes that the service will be available by the time Cricket World Cup starts. Well, one more reason for us to stay glued to out television and have expensive food right there while yelling at the t.v., 'How can you lose that catch ?!! Seriously, it was the easiest catch in history.' or something similar . As if we needed any more reason. But hey, what the public needs right? According to the plans, this service will be available initially in 2,000 restaurants and extend to 10,000 restaurants in next six months. This service will not be like the other food ordering services where the confirmed order is passed to the restaurant. Instead, it will act as a tech platform where the user will communicate with the restaurant. That is, the restaurants will be provided with an iPad (hello Apple) with a Zomato app which will turn it into an order hotline. Thus, the restaurants will manually accept orders from each user before it is processed. How will Zomato earn revenue from this? Well, Zomato has formulated a nifty little plan where their commission depends on the user reviews. Basically, a 5 star rating will mean 7% commission for Zomato and a 1 star rating will mean a whooping 15% commission for Zomato. So be careful while you give out a rating, people's livelihood depend on them.
