No it’s not a joke. Japanese display manufacturer, SHARP, has just announced a new 5.5″ 4K IGZO display that sports an insane pixel density of 806 ppi. We’ll let it sink in for a minute. Yes that is 806 pixels per inch!
Apple disrupted the normal LCD market with the launch of its Retina Display for the iPhone 4 with 321ppi, the magic number for Apple. Ever since then, all the manufacturers have been battling it out to beat the numbers game. With 806 ppi under its belt, SHARP is now the leader of the pack.
The current gen Galaxy S6 sports a 5.1″ QHD display that churns out 577ppi while the HTC One M9 packs in 441ppi. The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand sports 401ppi on a 5.5″ display.
SHARP says that the displays will enter mass production in 2016 and Samsung has already hinted at a 4K phone this year.
