Sony will cut prices for their Xperia series smartphones by up to 14% in India. The price cut will cover all Xperia handsets in the Z, T, C, E and M series among others. Based on the given percentage, the price cut may vary between Rs.1, 500 and Rs.6, 500 depending on the model. A senior executive from a consumer electronics retail chain has confirmed the price cut. “We have been informed of the price cut and it will be implemented across all Sony handsets available in the market,” the executive said. "The highest price cut is on the Z series smartphones, especially the Z3 handsets that were launched a couple of months ago. So the Xperia Z3 which currently retails between Rs 43,500 and Rs 44,900 will see a price reduction of Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,500. That's a price correction of around 14%," said an executive from one of the leading mobile retailing chains. Recently, Samsung launched Galaxy A3, A5, E5 and E7, four selfie-centric smartphones starting from Rs 19,300 in India. India is the first country to see the launch of the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 smartphones, thanks to a good run for Samsung mobile division in the Indian market in 2014. Interestingly, if the Xperia range does receive a price cut, the list of devices in the list will also include the two variants of Xperia Z3. Now, Sony had launched these devices only recently, during the September- October 2014 period to be precise. Going by the usual norm price cuts are typically introduced after six months to a year of launch. However, the Xperia Z3 will surely make an exception to this general rule after the reported price cut.
