Defending champion India launched their Cricket World Cup campaign in style, India went up against Pakistan with 300 runs on board. Pakistan fell short by 76 runs making it a glorious win for India. India maintained their unbeaten record against Pakistan in World Cup history. Electing to bat on a Good Adelaide wicket, Virat Kohli marked his return to form with a crafty 107 while Shikhar Dhawan (73) and Suresh Raina (74) were the other notable performers to steer India to a competitive total of 300 for seven. Shikhar Dhawan having flopped against Australia played sublimely, playing strokes all around the park. India coming into the match was low on confidence after having lost all their matches in the past three months. Therefore this win is quite significant considering how much mental battle they must have to endure coming into the match. India’s batting has always been her strength but of late they have been not clicking at the right moment for India, but the way India’s batting clicked at the right moment in the most pressure situation deserves special mention. Mohammad Shami (4/35 ), Umesh Yadav (2/50), Mohit Sharma (2/35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1/41) were the pick of the Indian bowlers as they kept taking wickets to put pressure on the Pakistani batsmen. Captain Misba-ul Haq (76), Ahmed Shehzad (47) and Haris Sohail (36) were the notable contributors. Team India registered its first victory in Australia since landing here in November last year.
