Recently, Pebble has just launched its kick-starter campaign for its new TIME smartwatch and have seen a great demand already for it. It was able to raise around $11 million for more than 60,000 units at the start and the shipping will start by this May. This immense demand is no big thing because we actually think that it deserves it. Why? Have a look!
Amazing battery life and Affordability
The TIME uses a color e-paper display which can give up to 7 days of battery without charging in between. Now this is actually is the sole reason for its popularity, because who would like to charge their ‘watches’ every now and then? Remember that its not a quite a phone. Its like your personal assistant but without charge, its just an expensive piece of useless jewelry. Consider the Apple Watch in this case, it gives you just a day of battery life and costs around $349 . While the TIME will just cost $199. Terrific.
One click to everything
The Pebble Time is efficient, convenient and easy to use. By efficient, we mean that it’s amazingly efficient. It has got three hard buttons on its side which allows you to quickly view all your appointments, calender events, weather and news classified for the Past, Present and Upcoming in a simplified ‘timeline’ view. So all you have to do is press the respective button to view them all directly rather than to browse through all the apps to see your daily events. The following image explains it all.
The full set of details haven’t been disclosed yet but the Time will have 64KB of RAM and a Cortex M4 CPU clocked at 100MHz, enough power to use the new microphone feature in it by which one can take quick voice memos and notes by dictation. While being waterproof it’s not advised to use the microphone feature underwater. The color E-paper display can only fit in 64 colors but that’s still decent enough to show up texts on screen clearly and sharply we suppose.
It will have 4 sensors – a 3 axis accelerometer, 3D compass, ambient light sensor and a microphone inbuilt. In addition to those, it’ll sport Bluetooth with a range of 50 meters. The company chose to use the physical keys instead of the widely used touchscreen concept, nevertheless it’s still better than most of the fancy smartwatches released yet.
It’s a fancy looking smartwatch for sure and comes in three basic colors – black, red and white. The thickness is just 9.5 mm, 20% slimmer than the original Pebble. The 22mm band can be easily customized and changed.
It’ll also have a silicone casing, suited according to the colors above mentioned and like the Samsung Gear S, It’ll have a curved scratch-resistant Gorilla glass to fit on your wrist comfortably. The bezel is made out of stainless steel, gives a premium shiny look.
The Pebble Time is said to support all the 6500+ apps made for Pebble as said by the company, the number of apps isn’t even close to Apple or Android wear’s but that can be compromised for the time being, because smartwatches are meant to help you with productivity, not gaming and the fun, we have the mobile phones for that purpose. Overall, this Pebble Time is something which you should totally look out for. In my opinion, it’s actually worth it for the people who are always on a move. Along with a decent display, superior effectiveness and massive battery life, the Pebble Time could set up a new standard for other Smartwatches.
